Our Story

Our farm started out as a pheasant preserve where friends, clients and family could enjoy the outdoors, exercise their dogs and do some hunting. The land was planted with hedgerows of corn and sorghum but largely rough. The opportunity to raise Bison was presented when members of the Onondaga tribe of Haudenosaunee expressed interest in reducing the size of their herd and a desire to strengthen the genetics of the herd with new blood.
We were able to purchase three bulls from Saranac Lake, New York and left them on the nation over the fall and winter of 2014. In March of 2014 we purchased 30 cows and moved them with 2 of the Saranac bulls to our farm. We have gradually improved the farm to what it is today, over 200 acres of rolling farmland overlooking Skaneateles Lake to our North.

Members of the Haudenosaunee tribe explained the purpose of the buffalo and the immense respect that they have for each life , thanking the buffalo with prayer for sustaining life when it is time to process an animal. Our job is to provide the best possible quality of life for the herd allowing Buffalo to live as close to what they would do in the wild as possible. They spend their days roaming the hills, shading in the woods, sunning, eating green grass or hay in winter, and fighting during rut season.
